The
Queensland Institute of Medical Research is the largest medical
research institute in Australia, with internationally-recognised
expertise in the conduct of molecular epidemiologic studies of cancer.
Epidemiological research identifies how often specific health
problems and diseases occur in the population and which environmental
and genetic factors may increase the risk of developing these conditions.

A broad selection of the population are recruited and asked questions
relating to diet, fitness and wellbeing. This lifestyle data can then be
used to evaluate possible interventions and improvement in health services
so the impact of disease on the community and individuals is reduced.
Our ultimate aim is to apply our knowledge of causative factors to
research into prevention and treatment.
